Zangeres verlaat Tristania

Op de website van Tristania is de volgende update verschenen:

Viebke "We moeten tot onze grote spijt aankondigen dat zangeres Vibeke Stene heeft besloten de band te verlaten vanwege persoonlijke redenen. De band vind het erg jammer maar respecteert haar beslissing en wenst haar het allerbeste voor de toekomst.

Tristania is nu op zoek naar een nieuwe zangeres omdat de band graag op tour wil gaan ter promotie van het nieuwe album. Demo's vergezeld van een recente foto kunnen gestuurd worden naar het volgende adres:

De band was al eerder gedwongen de release datum van Illumination uit te stellen vanwege de studieplannen van Vibeke. Of de studieplannen van Vibeke ook te maken hebben met haar vertrek is nog niet bekend.

3de album Dreadlock

Op 16 april aanstaande komt (via Lifeforce) het studioalbum van Deadlock uit, getiteld ‘Wolves’ (artwork). Op Myspace.com/lifeforcerecords is alvast het nummer ‘Code Of Honor’ te vinden. Het album, dat vorig jaar tussen september en november werd opgenomen, is geproduceerd door Sebastian Reichl (gitarist van de band) en is gemixt door Jacob Hansen (o.a. Mercenary, Raunchy) en Peter Siegfredsen (o.a. Mercenary, Illdisposed).

30-second audio samples of all 10 tracks that are set to appear on the new TYPE O NEGATIVE album, entitled "Dead Again", are available at BarnesAndNoble.com.

The album's title "Dead Again" implies a spiritual and physical void, but TYPE O is anything but finished. Although all of the sonics that have defined them for the past 17 years are still there, the quartet has significantly ratcheted up everything from atmospheres to musicianship. "The Profits Of Doom" features an opiate-laden psychedelic breakdown, while songs like "Tripping A Blind Man" and "Some Stupid Tomorrow" are powered by breakneck hardcore beats, which then downshift into medium-tempo grooves conjuring a '70s underground vibe. "September Sun" reconfigures the "power ballad," where the quieter melancholic parts are given greater resonance by the density of the riffs. "She Burned Me Down" is a destroyed-by-love song that inexplicably fuses guitarist Kenny Hickey's arena-rock sensibilities with LAIBACH-ian martial cadences. The closing "Hail And Farewell To Britain" — frontman Peter Steele's scathing farewell to a duplicitous ex-friend — stirs solid riffing, lyrical invective, incredibly deft playing along with field recordings of combat (think SONIC YOUTH covering THE ANIMALS' 1968 hit "Sky Pilot") for a jarring conclusion.

Wat heeft Korn gemeen met Bob Dylan, Mariah Carey en Alicia Keys? Ze hebben allemaal een prestigieuze MTV Unplugged sessie op hun naam staan. Het resultaat van Korn’s recentelijk opgenomen Unplugged sessie mag op zijn minst verrassend genoemd worden.

Deze MTV Unplugged sessie, die op zondagnacht 4 maart om 24.00 uur op MTV wordt uitgezonden, is vanaf 6 maart op cd en dvd te verkrijgen. Op het album spelen ze akoestische uitvoeringen van hun grootste succesnummers en enkele nieuwe songs die speciaal voor deze gelegenheid zijn geschreven. Elk nummer heeft zijn eigen charme en enkele hebben een hoog kippenvel factor. De normaal zo stevige nummers lijken gemaakt voor akoestische bewerkingen. Bij het intieme optreden wordt Korn vergezeld door The Cure, Chester Bennington van Linkin’ Park en Amy Lee van Evanescence.

Metalpack

Zo, en nu gaat 2007 dan echt beginnen voor het Metalpack!

Incease en The Titans spelen vrijdag 23 februari in de Scum, Katwijk.
Whiplash speelt in een bomvolle Lazarus in Leiden.
Over een maand, 23 maart om precies te zijn, zullen The Titans en Whiplash
in een tourbus afreizen naar Ridderkerk, om daar wat hulpeloze zielen omver te blazen.

Maar belangrijker is wat er buiten de muziek zelf gebeurd.
Zo is Incease min of meer de beroving van hun instrumenten te boven en zijn ze weer speelklaar.
Bovendien hebben ze (eindelijk) een opname afgerond en geplaatst op hun website.

Automatisch hangt hiermee samen dat het Metalpack in zijn geheel nu podia kan aanschrijven,
omdat we nu in feite allemaal ook audiomateriaal als referentie hebben.
Voor € 600,- euro komt het Metalpack optreden. Je krijgt dus een avondvullend programma aan metal
in de vorm van drie talentvolle bands, dus het is zeker de moeite waard.
Vandaar dat het metalpack woensdag 21 feb nog even bijeenkomt,
om de brieven voor tal van podia af te ronden en op de post te doen.
Hierna zullen wij, voor zowel podia, als partuculieren,
een Metalpack-compilatie CD presenteren, met daarop werk van alle drie de bands.

De heren (en dame) van The Titans krijgen het steeds drukker,
te meer omdat Detonator en Cronus nu ook weer bijeen zijn.
De laatste tijd wordt er meerdere malen per week gebeukt in The Box Studio's.

Whiplash verwacht met het optreden van 23 maart een nieuwe opname van een 'nieuw' nummer
te kunnen presenteren. Kort geleden, is the most damaging Dutch Metallica Tribute
samen met geluids-/drumtech Ed van Wijngaarden (ex-Montany, Joe Stamp) naar Hilversum gereisd,
voor een spoedsessie aldaar in de AVA-studio's.

Unholy klaar met opnames

De titel van Unholy’s nieuwe studioalbum is ‘Blood Of The Medusa’ en verschijnt op 5 juni aanstaande (via Lambgoat Records). Op Myspace.com/unholy is alvast de nieuwe track ‘A Whisper In The Darkness’ te vinden. ‘Blood Of The Medusa’ is geproduceerd door Jocko Randall (o.a. Ed Gein). De hardcoreformatie uit Syracuse, New York debuteerde vorig jaar met de MCD ’Awaken The Sleep’ (Silent Stagnation Records).

Nile in de studio

NILE To Enter Studio Tomorrow - Feb. 25, 2007
According to an online posting by NILE drummer George Kollias, the band will enter the studio tomorrow (Monday, February 26) to begin recording the follow-up to 2005's "Annihilation of the Wicked", due later in the year via Nuclear Blast Records.

Said Kollias: "There is a lot of work to be done. The new songs sound REALLY great and tight. I can't wait to record!"

NILE's last album, "Annihilation of the Wicked" album, was released in May 2005 via Relapse Records. A video for the album track "Sacrifice Unto Sebek" was shot on location in Atlanta, GA by director Chad Rullman (MASTODON's "March of the Fire Ants", THE AGONY SCENE) for Supercollider Films.

NILE will embark on a headlining tour of Australia in May. Support at the shows will come from Polish technical death metal sensations DECAPITATED.

After Forever nieuws

A 21-second video clip containing footage of Dutch female-fronted symphonic metal outfit AFTER FOREVER filming the video for its new single, "Energize Me", in Amsterdam, Holland has been posted online at YouTube.com.

Commented guitarist Sander Gommans: "The recording team was very professional and had a lot of great ideas. I can't wait till the video is finished! The atmosphere already looked great in the shots I viewed, and I think the energy of the clip will fit the song exactly the way it should. You've probably seen some of our previous clips but I think you'll be surprised by this one!"

The "Energize Me" single is due on March 23, featuring the songs "Energize Me" (radio edit), "Energize Me" (album version), "Sweet Enclosure" (non-album track).

The cover artwork for AFTER FOREVER's new self-titled album has been posted online at this location. Due in Europe on April 20 via Nuclear Blast Records, the follow-up to 2005's "Remagine" will contain the following track listing:

Sessie drummer Epica

We are very happy to announce that Koen Herfst will be joining us live as a session drummer for the upcoming shows. Koen is the drummer of Dutch urban metal band Bagga Bownz, but is also known for his helping hand by filling in for Andre with After Forever when they were in need of a session drummer.

Brede programmering Waldrock

In plaats van met festivals als Fields Of Rock en Pinkpop te wedijveren om de grootste namen, richt Wâldrock zich dit jaar op de vele bands in de subtop van het metalgenre, alsmede de nieuwe lichting metal- en hardcorebands. Dit heeft de organisatie van het Friese metalfestival in een persbericht meegedeeld. Verder wordt de mogelijkheid van een derde podium niet uitgesloten. Op zeer korte termijn zullen waarschijnlijk de eerste namen bekend gemaakt worden.

Ontploffing op 30-04-2007 !!

Het nieuwe studioalbum van Detonation gaat ‘Emission Phase’ (artwork) heten en wordt op 30 april aanstaande uitgebracht (door Osmose Productions). Bij de opnames van hun derde full-length lieten de Utrechtse death/thrashers zich bijstaan door Jochem Jacobs en Bouke Visser van de Split Second Sound Studio. Coldworker denkt aan opvolger

Amper vier maand geleden bracht de Zweedse formatie Coldworker, rond voormalig Nasum-drummer Anders Jakobsen, (via Relapse) het debuut ‘A Contimanitated Void’ uit. Intussen zijn de death/grinders alweer druk aan het nadenken over een opvolger. De eerste (rehearsal)opnames kunnen volgens Coldworker rond maart, april tegemoet gezien worden. Een interview met drummer Jakobsen (11 november 2006) vind je hier.

Nieuw Immolation nummer online

Eerder berichtten we al over het feit dat er van de New Yorkse death metalband Immolation zowel een nieuwe full-length als een gecombineerde EP/DVD op uitkomen staat. Zie voor meer info het eerdere bericht. Van die aanstaande full-length, genaamd ‘Shadows In The Light’, (artwork) is op Myspace.com/immolationny alvast het nummer ‘World Agony’ te vinden. ‘Shadows In The Light’ verschijnt april aanstaande in Europa (via Listenable).

Drummer Alter Ego weg

Het is geen nieuws meer dat Alter Ego al een tijdje terug gebost is. Uit een schrijven van een toenmalige lid van deze band, is het doordat de drummer, Chavelli, de band had verlaten wegens persoonlijke redenen.

Hieronder volgt een stuk uit het schrijven:
Haar persoonlijke visie kwam niet overeen met de bandvisie die we eerder hadden opgesteld, dus is ze zelf eruit gestapt.
De verschillende leden van Alter Ego zijn als vrienden uit elkaar gegaan en het kan dus voorkomen dat we (of een gedeelte van ons) weer eens 'iets' samen doen. We gaan binnenkort wel de studio in en nemen onze eigen nummers op. Meer info hieromtrent volgt nog.

Into the arena: nieuwe hardrock coverband

Into The Arena is een gloednieuwe hardrock-coverband uit Brabant. Op dit moment hebben zij onder de bezielende leiding van Peer Verschuren (Lana Lane, ex-Vengeance) al tien nummers op het repertoire waarmee zij als opening act al zeer goed uit de voeten kunnen. Daarnaast wordt het repertoire de komende maand uitgebreid met minimaal vijf nummers, waardoor er ruimte is voor een gevarieerd programma.

Op 29 april is de band voor de eerste maal live te aanschouwen en wel in "Den Witte Engel" in het Brabantse Geertruidenberg.

Line-up My Dying Bride

This just in, straight from the band:

My Dying Bride is sorry to have to say that on 5th January 2007 bassist Adrian Jackson left the band. He has pledged his future in America and has made it quite clear there is no room in his plans for My Dying Bride. We have parted in good faith and wish him luck with his new life out there. It has absolutely no effect on any of the gigs we have confirmed. We have already rehearsed his replacement to gig readiness and she is looking forward to playing for the first time in My Dying Bride. More on his replacement, Lena, soon.

Secondly we have had to replace long term stand in drummer / thunder truck / Uberlunatic John Bennet due to his work commitments. He is saddened by the fact he cannot drum for My Dying Bride anymore as are we, but we understand that we all have to make a living and wish him luck too in his job.

It's not all doom and gloom though as we have been rehearsing with excellent drummer Dan Mullins of Thine, Bal Sagoth and Sermon Of Hypocrisy fame and again he too is now at gig readiness. MDB has a new fresh focused feel to it and we are looking forward to the shows with a vengeance.

Queensryche nieuwe live dvd/cd

Mindcrime at the Moore wordt de titel van een nieuwe live dubbel cd en dvd van Queensrÿche. Het album werd opgenomen in The Moore Theatre in de thuisstad van de band, Seattle, toen de band daar tussen 13 en 15 oktober 2005 optrad. Deze nieuwe opname kan gezien worden als een opvolger voor het vijftien jaar oude Operation: Livecrime, want heel Operation: Mindcrime deel 1 en 2 komen op deze nieuwe. De dvd zal ook nog bonusmateriaal bevatten.

Oceans of sadness doet alice in chains

OCEANS OF SADNESS: Cover Of ALICE IN CHAINS' 'Them Bones' Posted Online - Feb. 22, 2007
Belgian progressive metallers OCEANS OF SADNESS have posted their cover version of ALICE IN CHAINS' "Them Bones" on their MySpace page. The track comes off the group's fourth album, "Mirror Palace", due in April via Italy's Scarlet Records. The CD was produced by Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA, AMON AMARTH) at Fascination Street Studio in Örebro, Sweden and features 10 tracks. Also available on the group's MySpace page is a clip of the song "Intoxicated", plus a full-length version of the track "Mould".

OCEANS OF SADNESS' third full-length album, "Send In the Clowns", was releasedin 2005. The follow-up to 2002's "Laughing Tears * Crying Smile" was recorded at Midas Studio in Lokeren, Belgium with producer Tony De Block and was mastered by Attie Bauw (JUDAS PRIEST, GOREFEST, CHANNEL ZERO).

Callenisch Circle stopt ermee!

After nearly 15 years we’ve decided to lay our precious CALLENISH CIRCLE to rest. We’ll play our last show on Saturday the 10th of March at De Azijnfabriek in Roermond, The Netherlands. This wasn't the easiest decision to make, but in the end, we all agree that CALLENISH CIRCLE has now run its course. We’ve accomplished everything that we set out to do and even more but now the time has come to move on. We’re all very proud of our latest album [Pitch.Black.Effects] and feel that now is a good time to call it a day.”

“After all those years the inspiration to keep CALLENISH CIRCLE going was slowly fading away. We always aimed to deliver the goods with the highest quality possible and we simply do not want to continue a band that can’t give the essential blood, sweat & tears anymore. 4de editie Hub & Heuy Metalfest

Op zaterdag 2 juni vindt de 4e editie van het Hub & Heuy Metalfest plaats in De Azijnfabriek te Roermond.
Dit festival is in 2001 opgezet met de achterliggende gedachte om lokale bands podiumervaring te geven door samen met grotere en internationaal bekende bands het podium te laten delen. Voor deze 4e editie zullen de lokale bands Anger Alliance (metalcore), Mytholic (power/thrashmetal) en Symbolic (Death-tribute band) spelen. Als grotere en reeds bekendere bands zullen Powervice, de ultieme heavy metal sensatie uit Nederland en Gorath, de nieuwe black metal belofte uit Belgie spelen. Als headliner zal Dimension F3H een exclusief Europees optreden komen geven. Dimension F3H speelt progressieve black metal en is afkomstig uit Noorwegen. Velen zullen deze band reeds kennen omdat de leden afkomstig zijn van het onlangs uit de dood herrezen Limbonic Art.

nieuwe drummer circle of dead children

De uit Pittsburgh afkomstige death/grindformatie Circle Of Dead Children heeft een nieuwe drummer, luisterend naar de naam Matt Francis. Hij vervangt daarmee de vertrokken Mike Bartek. Matt is de inmiddels vierde drummer van de band. Binnenkort begint de band met het schrijven van een nieuwe full-length, die medio 2007 moet verschijnen (via Willowtip Records). CODC’s laatste release was de EP ‘Zero Comfort Margin’ uit 2005 (Willowtip).

Caliban wijzigt albumtitel

De Duitse metalformatie Caliban heeft de titel van diens aankomende studioalbum veranderd van ‘From Sorrow To Serenity’ in ‘The Awakening’. Dit vijfde album van de band is geproduceerd door Benny Richter. Releasedatum: 25 mei 2007. ‘The Awakening’ wordt de opvolger van ‘The Undying Darkness’ uit 2006 (Roadrunner).

grote namen fields of rock

Met de toevoeging van Dream Theater, Machine Head, Heaven & Hell, Ill Nino, Delain, Devildriver, Type O Negative en Dragonforce is nu ongeveer de helft van de line-up van Fields Of Rock bekend gemaakt. Eerder al was bekend dat Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Motörhead, Korn, Life of Agony en Black Label Society op het festival zullen optreden. Fields Of Rock zal op 16 en 17 juni plaatsvinden op het festivalterrein van Walibi World in Flevoland. Een weekendticket kost 119 euro (incl. camping), dagkaarten 69, en ze zijn inmiddels te koop.

Zoals bekend zijn we de met The Rock Online de test-fase voor de eerste oplevering van een officiële Metalplaza Store. Je kan een kijkje nemen op http://therockonline.metalplaza.nl om te zien hoe het een en ander eruit ziet.
Verder zijn er reeds enthousiaste reacties binnengekomen en hebben zich nieuwe geïnteresseerden aangemeld.

Shirts:
Metalplaza zal op korte termijn met shirts gaan komen en deze in eerste instantie aan gaan bieden in onze eigen Metalplaza Store. Meer leuke spulletjes zullen dan volgen, maar shirts hebben we met de lente en zomer van 2007 echt snel nodig!

Nieuwe Nightwish single

Nightwish gaat op 30 mei een nieuwe single uitbrengen, getiteld Eva. De single zal alleen via het internet verkrijgbaar zijn, en alle opbrengsten gaan naar een goed doel. Na het ontslag van zangeres Tarja Turunen in oktober 2005 hebben zo'n 2000 mensen gesolliciteerd naar de vrijgekomen positie, en Eva wordt dan het eerste materiaal met een nieuwe zangeres. Op 30 mei zal de band ook officieel bekend maken wie het geworden is.

2) In Flames

Even with multiple lineup changes In Flames continues to be at the top of the death metal genre. Mixing death metal growls with clean singing, they have a wide appeal that grows with each release.

3) Dark Tranquillity

Dark Tranquillity, formed in 1989, were another band at the beginning of the melodic death metal movement. And unlike some groups whose time in the sun has come and gone, Dark Tranquility continues to progress and release great albums.

4) Evergrey

In a country where melodic death metal reigns supreme, it may seem like an unusual choice to rank a progressive metal group like Evergrey so highly. But when you factor in their extraordinary musical ability and great songwriting, it's an easy choice. Tom S. Englund has one of the best voices in metal, and Evergrey are the complete package.

5) Soilwork

It may seem strange, but Soilwork has been accused of being "too commercial." Their style of melodic death metal is very palatable compared to some bands in the genre, but I doubt you'll be hearing any of their music on your local pop station anytime soon. They write really good songs and have a great mix of the brutal and the melodic.

Recommended album: The Chainheart Machine (2000)

6) At The Gates

At The Gates were at the forefront of melodic death metal in the early '90s. Before disbanding in 1996 they recorded several influential and respected albums. Some of their members went on to form The Haunted.

Recommended album: Slaughter Of The Soul (1995)

7) Meshuggah

Meshuggah plays a really diverse form of metal that utilizes unusual time signatures and tempo changes combined with thrash and death metal elements and a lot of experimentation. They tend to be hit and miss, but when they're on, they are really good.

Recommended album: Destroy Erase Improve (1995)

8) Amon Amarth

Originally called Scum, the death metal band Amon Amarth incorporates Viking imagery into their lyrics and a lot of melodic elements into their music.

Recommended album: Fate Of Norns (2004)

9) Candlemass

Candlemass are one of the pioneers of doom metal. They've been doing it for 20 years, and original vocalist Messiah Marcolin has once again left the band.

Recommended album: Nightfall (1987)

10) Arch Enemy

Arch Enemy is unique in that they are a death metal band with a female vocalist. Angela Gossow screams with just as much fury as anyone else and after several years with the band has proven to be no novelty act.

Mad Anthony's Hot Sauce

Deciding that I wanted to develop my own hot sauce, I hooked up with the folks at Mike and Diane’s Gourmet Kitchen - makers of my favorite hot sauce, Ring of Fire.

When we sat down to develop this sauce, we decided to use only the finest ingredients that this little blue orb called Earth could offer. We chose the delightful Pimiento Pepper to act as the backdrop for my incendiary elixir. Then we sweetened it up a bit with some Sweet Red Bell Peppers. We also thought it would be fun to kick everyone’s asses with overly generous helpings of fresh roasted garlic and Habanero Chilies which were flown in fresh from the Caribbean.

I had a full sweat goin’, but we weren't done yet, so next we heaped in some Ancho Chile Powder, Crushed Chilies and Black Pepper to give it the depth and complexity that a truly great sauce requires.

This sauce is a celebration of life’s simple pleasures including great taste and a lot of heat both North and South of the border. I think it is perfect for any occasion and any food.

I invite you to try my sauce, and make sweatin’ it out on the can the next morning part of your everyday ritual.

The makers of the documentary "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" are seeking metal fans from Middle Eastern countries who are attending the Desert Rock Festival in Dubai, March 9-10, 2007, to appear in their follow-up film, "Global Metal".

"We are excited about filming at Desert Rock and meeting with fans from throughout the Middle East," directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn said. 'We want to talk with metalheads from the Middle East about their love for metal and their experiences being metal fans in these countries."

The filmmakers are seeking information from fans who are attending Desert Rock who currently live in the following countries:

The two-disc DVD set was released in North America in May and includes extended interviews, an interactive metal history chart, and a mini-doc on Norwegian black metal.

"Global Metal" is expected to include interviews with Israel's ORPHANED LAND and MELECHESH as well as live footage from ORPHANED LAND's November 25, 2006 show at the Theatre Club in Tel-Aviv, Israel and MELECHESH's concert at The Opera House in Toronto on September 23, 2006.

Sceptic Flesh

Het is maar een kort berichtje, maar hopelijk één met grote gevolgen. Bombastische death metal band Septic Flesh komt namelijk eenmalig bij elkaar. Dit om een optreden te doen op het Metal Healing Festival dat op 20 juli plaatsvindt in hun thuisland Griekenland.

Één optreden dus maar, maar zoals de geschiedenis ons leert krijgen bands daardoor vaak de smaak te pakken. (Oude) fans kijken halsreikend uit naar zo’n optreden, gaan helemaal uit hun plaat en de band voelt zich de koning te rijk. Tel hierbij op dat Septic Flesh toch nooit een erg actieve liveband was en de hoop rijst dat ze weer platen gaan maken.

Septic Flesh gooide het bijltje er in 2003 bij neer. Net nadat ze hun absolute meesterwerk Sumerian Daemons uitbrachten. Een grote teleurstelling. Vooral als je je bedenkt dat ze zich met die plaat kunnen meten met het latere werk van Dimmu Borgir. Geen half werk dus.

Darling Rooster presenteert nieuwe opnames

De Goudse band Darling Rooster heeft de afgelopen maanden met succes haar laatste opnames gepresenteerd. Het nummer "Lying in the grass" wordt inmiddels opgepikt door regionale en nationale radiozenders (KinkFM). Ook de CD waar nummers van deze band op staan (label IYR!, producer Evert Nieuwstede) legt geen windeieren.

Het verzamelalbum "The Best of It's Your Record! Part 5" is de top 10 binnengekomen van de hitlijst van het Nationaal Popinstituut. Deze hitlijst omvat enkel producties van Nederlandse bodem en wordt door de site-bezoekers samengesteld. Het is dus een goede opiniepeiler. Tevens staat deze CD hoog in de verkooplijst van distributeur Fonos.

Darling Rooster heeft hier zijn aandeel in en profiteert dan ook van alle aandacht. Zo speelden zij eerder in onder andere de Boerderij en Bibelot. Afgelopen december stonden zij in een uitverkochte Gonz en op 23 maart zal de band voor de derde keer So What aandoen voor een zinderend optreden.

Ode Chuck Guitar World

Voedsel voor (metal) gitaristen. Gitaarblad Guitar World brengt in April een editie uit met daarin een 6000 woorden tellende ode aan Chuck Schuldiner (rip.). Chuck was gitarist/zanger van het legendarische Death en gitarist van Control Denied.

De stukken bevatten niet eerder gepubliceerde foto’s die uit de privécollectie van de familie Schuldiner komen. Voor de spielerei bevat het blad de volledige transcriptie voor gitaar en basgitaar van de Death klassiekers Pull The Plug en The Philospher.

‘The spirit of Chuck’ blijft nog steeds voortleven. Wel jammer dat ‘men’ de meest voor de hand liggende nummers uit kiest om te publiceren. Gitaristen die into Death zijn zullen Pull The Plug en The Philospher zeker al kennen. Waarom niet eens Overactive Imagination of Crystal Mountain?

Drummer terug bij Holy Moses

Ex-Sodom drummer Atomic Steif is terug bij Holy Moses. Zo'n vijftien jaar terug drumde hij al bij de Duitse thrashers, op het album Terminal Terror, maar nu krijgt hij een nieuwe kans, want met hem zijn ze in de oefenruimte aan het werk aan nieuw materiaal, voor de opvolger voor Strength, Power, Will, Passion. Wanneer ze het nieuwe album gaan opnemen is echter nog niet bekend.

Morian debuut album komt eraan

Morian’s upcoming debut album “Sentinels Of The Sun” is now mixed and mastered. The single “Away From The Sun” is out 7.3., featuring single version and a music video of the title song!

Nieuwe NL death metal band

Supreme Pain is een nieuwe Nederlandse death metalband die naast Aad Kloosterwaard (Sinister, Infinited Hate) op zang, bestaat uit Erwin Harreman (gitaar, bas) en drummer Robert Covacic. Op dit moment werken de heren aan ‘Cadaver Pleasure’, full-length nummer één, die eind dit jaar moet verschijnen (via Comatose Records). Ga naar Myspace.com/supremepain voor nummers van de eind vorig jaar opgenomen promo ‘Lifeless Skin And Bones’.

Nieuw Cornerstone Album

Yngwie Malmsteen zanger Doogie White en zijn band Cornerstone komen deze week met een nieuwe cd. Het nieuwe album van deze Deense band heet Two Tales Of One Tomorrow, en op hun website staan alvast vier nummers om te beluisteren. Binnenkort is de band ook in Nederland te zien, want op 27 april staan ze in Plato in Helmond.

Metal Awards uitgereikt Finland

Het is weer eens wat anders dan de TMF-Awards: In Finland zijn de ‘Finish Metal Awards’ uitgereikt. Children Of Bodom ging naar huis met de prijs voor Band of the Year. De awards werden uitgereikt tijdens de Finsih Metal Expo in Helsinki. Een beurs voor platenlabels, makers van muziekinstrumenten, media en meer.

De Finse media stelde de shortlist met deelnemers op voor elke categorie. Het ‘gewone’ volk koos daarna de winnaars. Dit zijn:

Casual Silence - Lost in Life

Progressive symphonic rock from the Netherlands

Casual Silence was founded in 1993 by three singers from different musical backgrounds. After originally starting as a rock cover band, Casual Silence soon grew into a melodic rock band with mainly her own work. The compositions, autobiographical lyrics and influences from the rock, symphonic and progressive metal, were effortlessly transformed into exciting songs with a sound of its own.
In 1997 the band launched her debut album “Bad Side Memories”. With this album they also got ample opportunity to prove themselves live on the stage. In 1999 the mini-disc “Shamelessly Dressed” was released, which showed the group has developed in a versatile way. After the release of this second album, the name ‘Casual Silence’ often appears in the pop and rock magazines and the band became a well known name in the regional rock scène.
At the end of the year 2000, keyboard player David Natali was replaced by Henry Meeuws (known from his solo project MEDEA). In this period the band worked hard on writing new material.
At the beginning of 2003 the band released her new album “Once In a Blue Moon”. By the compositions on this album you can hear the band has strongly developed in every way. This manifests itself in praise worthy reviews in the media and a lot of gigs with famous acts like: Tony MacAlpine & Virgil Donati, Epica, Focus, Alquin, Kayak, Jadis, Landmarq, The Watch, Pain of Salvation and Saga. Casual Silence is a band you really have to experience live, that proves the DVD “Live at Plato” (CD presentation of ‘Once in a Blue Moon’) released at the end of 2003.
Now…almost 4 years after her last studio album, the musicians of Casual Silence reward the patience of their fans with a strong brand new concept album: “Lost In Life”. For this 4th album, the band has co-operated with Sandra Peeters (V-Male) and no one less than the unique English vocalist Damian Wilson. It has become an album with 8 masterpieces of symphonic, progressive and catchy songs. If you read the lyrics you’ll find out that the band members found to their cost what ‘Lost in Life’ really means. The atmosphere the CD breathes is stirring and oppressive at the same time. Nieuwe muziek Dying Fetus online

Volgende maand verschijnt er na vier jaar een nieuwe studioplaat van de US death metalformatie Dying Fetus. Het album heet ‘War Of Attrition’ (artwork) en wordt (in Europa) op 19 maart uitgebracht (Relapse). Van dit album is hier alvast de track ‘Homicidal Retribution’ te downloaden. Een andere albumtrack, namelijk ‘Fate Of The Condemned’, is hier (streaming) te vinden. ‘War Of Attrition’ is opgenomen in de Hit & Run Studios te Rockville, Maryland.

Nieuwe CD Static X

Op 3 april aanstaande verschijnt (via Warner Bros.) het nieuwe studioalbum van Static-X, getiteld ‘Cannibal’ (artwork). Het album wordt voorafgegaan door de single ‘Destroyer’, die hier alvast te beluisteren is. ‘Cannibal’, de opvolger van ‘Start A War’ uit 2005 (Warner Bros.), is de vijfde full-length voor de uit Los Angeles afkomstige formatie en de eerste met nieuwe drummer Nick Oshiro. Voor de productie tekende Ulrich Wild.

De albumtitel ‘No Compromise’ dient volgens drummer Luke Buckbee te worden gezien als een persoonlijk statement. “In feite symboliseert het ons rotsvaste vertrouwen in deze band. Wij volgen onze eigen weg en laten ons niet van de wijs brengen door invloeden van buitenaf”. Gewichtige woorden. Maar met hun eind vorige maand verschenen tweede full-length hebben de mannen uit Massachusetts dan ook wel iets om gewichtig over te doen.

Met het sterke ‘No Compromise’ gaat de band verder waar het debuut ‘Valor And Vengeance’ ophield. Op langspeler nummer twee heeft Since The Flood zich ontdaan van alle overbodigheden, waardoor de plaat meteen to the point komt. Wat nog eens onderstreept wordt met een effectieve in-your-face-productie.

“Helemaal mee eens. Door alle onnodige ballast achterwege te laten, klinken de nieuwe songs een stuk explosiever en verwoorden nog beter het gevoel dat we met onze muziek over willen brengen. Dat is ten opzichte van het debuut inderdaad een enorme vooruitgang. Wat de productie betreft, we hebben de plaat opgenomen in de Outpost Studio in Massachusetts met Jim Siegal. Naar mijn mening is hij een van de meest ondergewaardeerde producers die er is. Mede dankzij hem verliepen de opnames uitermate soepel en voorspoedig. Het hele opnameproces was voor ons een ware eye-opener.”

Ik las laatst een interview waarin jullie zanger Chuck Bouley beweerde dat de metalinvloeden op de nieuwe plaat flink zijn toegenomen. Terwijl ik ‘No Compromise’ juist zo tof vind, vanwege de prominente ‘hardcore-feel’.

“Iedereen kijkt er weer anders tegenaan, denk ik. Maar persoonlijk ben ik het wel met je eens. Ik vind de plaat inderdaad totaal niet ‘metal’ klinken en ben zelf ook van mening dat dát juist de kracht is van ‘No Compromise’. Het is pure in-your-face-hardcore en volgens mij spreek je daarmee meer mensen aan dan met de zoveelste metalcorevariant.”

Nadat het debuut al verscheen via het aan Metal Blade gelieerde Ironclad Recordings (een label dat gerund wordt door Unearth-frontman Trevor Phipps) was de overstap naar Metal Blade zelf een kleine, beaamt Luke.

“Vanaf het moment dat Unearth tekende bij Metal Blade, werden ook de releases van Ironclad, waaronder de onze, door hen gedistribueerd. Nadat we voor allerlei zaken al regelmatig contact hadden met Metal Blade wisten ze dat we een hardwerkende band zijn die graag veel tourt. Dat heeft ze uiteindelijk doen besluiten ons te tekenen.”

Al moet de drummer nog wel even wennen aan de grote mediabelangstelling sinds het verschijnen van hun Metal Blade-debuut.

“Het verschil aan promotie is werkelijk een verschil van dag en nacht. Van praktisch geen promotie gingen we naar een overdaad aan mediabelangstelling. Echter niks ten nadele van Ironclad Recordings. Je moet natuurlijk niet vergeten dat Ironclad en Metal Blade qua omvang niet met elkaar te vergelijken zijn. Maar het zal je niet verbazen dat de huidige situatie ons wel stukken beter bevalt.”

Bovendien zijn die media de band overwegend goedgezind. Terwijl de reacties op ‘Valor And Vengeance’ destijds nogal varieerden.

“Dat zou ik eerlijk gezegd niet weten en eigenlijk interesseert ons dat ook niet bijster veel. Natuurlijk lees je als band liever positieve recensies. Maar om eerlijk te zijn hebben reacties van anderen, of ze nou positief of negatief zijn, vrijwel geen impact op ons. Wij blijven gewoon de muziek maken die we zelf goed vinden, ongeacht wat mensen daarvan vinden. Een oordeel vellen laten we graag aan anderen over.”

Ik neem aan dat jullie ‘No Compromise’ uitgebreid gaan ondersteunen met optredens. Zijn er plannen voor een Europese tour?

“Momenteel staan we op het punt om met Madball en Death Before Dishonour op pad te gaan, voor een uitgebreide tour in het noordoosten van de Verenigde Staten. Daarna gaan we met Ramallah and Seventh Star de rest van de States onder handen nemen. Verder is er nog niets concreet. We zijn absoluut van plan ook naar Europa te komen, maar daarvoor bestaan nog geen concrete plannen.”

Hoewel Cypher op de in 2003 in eigen beheer verschenen promo ‘Forward Devolution’ al duidelijk liet horen heel wat in zijn mars te hebben, bleef het daarna lang stil rond de band. Stilte voor de storm, zo bleek, want sinds het verschijnen van het knalharde ‘Darkday Carnival’, eind vorig jaar, kan niemand meer om de jonge formatie heen. Dat vinden ook de metalgezinde media, die zowel in binnen- als buitenland unaniem zijn in hun positieve oordeel.

Al met al reden te over voor een kort onderhoud met gitarist Sander en zanger T. Aan eerstgenoemde de vraag wat er allemaal met Cypher gebeurd is sinds het verschijnen van de promo in 2003.

Sander: “Behoorlijk wat. Na het uitkomen van ‘Forward Devolution’ zijn Tobias (alias T) en ik songs gaan schrijven voor ons debuutalbum. Vervolgens hebben we de line-up van de band compleet gemaakt (door het aantrekken van bassist Pioko en drummer Frank, red.). Ten tijde van die promo was van een complete band namelijk nog geen sprake. Wij waren op dat moment eigenlijk nog met z'n tweeën op projectbasis bezig met Cypher. Toen de bezetting eenmaal compleet was, zijn we na het nodige oefenen de podia opgegaan. Vrij snel daarna zijn we ‘Darkday Carnival’ op gaan nemen.”

In 2003 kwam Cypher, een half jaar na oprichting, al met een promo op de proppen. ‘Darkday Carnival’ liet wat langer op zich wachten.

“We hadden al wel aardig wat materiaal geschreven, maar we moesten ook op zoek naar muzikanten. Toen we die eenmaal gevonden hadden, was het vervolgens zaak alle nummers strak ingestudeerd te krijgen, voordat we konden beginnen aan de opnames. Dat heeft de nodige tijd gekost. Net zoals het zoeken naar een label eventjes geduurd heeft. Alhoewel dat pas na de opnames is gebeurd.”

Voor de mix werd Textures-gitarist en aanstormend producerstalent Jochem Jacobs gestrikt.

“We hebben eerst de de plaat zelf opgenomen, de drums in de Excess Studio (in Rotterdam, red.) en de vocalen, gitaren en bas met onze eigen faciliteiten. Voor het mixen zijn we op zoek gegaan naar een producer. Omdat we een aantal producties van Jochem Jacobs hadden gehoord die ons erg bevielen, hebben we contact met hem opgenomen. Dat klikte meteen enorm goed.”

“Hij heeft eerst een soort tussenmix gemaakt, waar we op z’n zachts gezegd behoorlijk vrolijk van werden. Ik denk dat hij echt het uiterste uit de productie heeft weten te halen. Aan de recensies te merken valt de productie niet alleen bij ons in de smaak. Ja, als je ziet wat Jochem de laatste tijd klaarspeelt qua producties, denk ik dat hij hard op weg is om een van de beteren van Nederland te worden.”

Als ik me niet vergis waren de recensies van ‘Darkday Carnival’ of positief of lovend. Zijn jullie daardoor op een roze wolk komen te zitten?

T: “Als dat allemaal in één keer zou komen, zit je, denk ik, wel even op een roze wolk. Het is echter allemaal veel geleidelijker gegaan. We namen de plaat op, een paar maanden later vonden we een label en toen kwamen de positieve kritieken. Op die manier is het een het logische gevolg van het ander. Maar het gaat momenteel wel erg goed, daar zijn we ons weldegelijk van bewust.”

Waren jullie verbaasd door de lovende reacties?

“We waren wel overtuigd van ons product, maar je weet natuurlijk nooit wat ze gaan schrijven. Onze hiervoor verschenen promo werd bijvoorbeeld enerzijds vergeleken met Pantera en anderzijds met Malevolent Creation. Dat zijn twee behoorlijke uitersten. Iedereen heeft natuurlijk zijn eigen referentiekader en hoort erin wat hij of zij erin wil horen. Het is dus altijd afwachten, maar tot nu toe zijn de reacties inderdaad erg goed.”

Heeft dat zich al vertaald in toegenomen belangstelling en populariteit?

“Ach, we kunnen tot nu toe nog gewoon over straat. (hilariteit) Maar onze bekendheid is inderdaad wel flink toegenomen. Mede dankzij het feit dat we in de Terrorizer stonden en op hun verzamel-cd. Voor het grootste deel van het metalpubliek lijken we natuurlijk volledig uit het niets te komen.”

Hoe is jullie deal met Rusty Cage Records tot stand gekomen?

Sander: “We zijn met een kant en klaar product op zoek gegaan naar een label. Nadat we de plaat naar een aantal labels hadden gestuurd, was Rusty Cage een van de labels die interesse toonde. We zijn met meerdere partijen in gesprek geweest, maar Rusty Cage deed simpelweg het beste bod. We hebben toen besloten om de gok te wagen. Het is natuurlijk een nieuw label. Zij hadden echter zo’n goed verhaal dat we overstag gegaan zijn.”

Hoe komt een moderne metalband terecht bij een label als Rusty Cage Records. Dat label brengt toch voornamelijk old school metal en hardrock uit?

“Dat zou je misschien denken, maar dat is zeker niet het geval. Ze hebben inderdaad een aantal re-releases van oude Nederlandse bands uitgebracht, maar die dienden enkel als een manier om het label op te starten. Ze zijn namelijk juist heel erg gericht op nieuw talent. Wij zijn eigenlijk de eerste ‘nieuwe’ band die ze getekend hebben, maar er komen binnenkort meer releases aan van acts waar ze momenteel nog mee in onderhandeling zijn. Ze zijn dus absoluut niet van plan om alleen maar oud werk te gaan uitbrengen.”

De naam Rusty Cage suggereert ook enige belegenheid.

“Haha, zo had ik het nog niet bekeken. Maar wij hebben niet gekeken naar namen en de status van labels. We vroegen ons enkel af: is het aanbod goed? Hoe zit het met de distributie? En wat hebben ze ons te bieden? Rusty Cage is tot nu toe een hele goede keus gebleken.”

Hoe ver is hun reikwijdte buiten de Benelux?

“Wat promotie betreft, er heeft een paginagrote advertentie in het Duitse magazine Terrorizer gestaan en er stond een nummer van ons op een verzamel-cd van dit blad. Momenteel zijn ze in Duitsland druk bezig ons te promoten.”

T: “Bij een groter label ben je hoogstwaarschijnlijk geen prioriteit. En bovendien hebben grotere labels over het algemeen weinig zin om geld in jonge bands te steken. Zoals Sander al zei, had Rusty Cage gewoon een erg goed verhaal en is ons verzekerd dat wij prioriteit voor hen zijn.”

Hoe groot zijn de ambities van Cypher als het op touren aankomt?

Sander: “Ik denk wel dat wij allemaal zo gemotiveerd zijn dat wanneer de mogelijkheid om te toeren zich voor doet, we dat zoveel mogelijk gaan doen. Een aantal van ons heeft weliswaar fulltime jobs, maar gelukkig ook vrij flexibele werkgevers, zodat we zeker op pad kunnen. Dat gaan we ook niet nalaten. Als je op enig niveau met metal bezig bent, moet een aantal tours wel tot de mogelijkheden behoren. Wat tijd betreft dan, hè. Of het ook daadwerkelijk gaat gebeuren is natuurlijk een tweede.”

Met enige trots kunnen we bekend maken dat het Australische ALCHEMIST terugkeert naar Europa en Nederland zal bezoeken als headliner van ProgPower Europe op zaterdag 6 oktober! Mogelijk wordt het de enige show in Nederland, de band zal een Europese tour gaan doen maar wil zich op een aantal andere landen concentreren dan vorige keer.

Digipack / EP Taake

Dark Essence Records heeft 12 maart bekend gemaakt als de release date voor de digipack versie van Taake's album Doedskvad. Als bonus bevat de digipack versie een paar live clips van Taake opgenomen tijdens Hole In The Sky festival in 2005.

Tegelijk met Taake's Europese tour, met Urgeha en Koldbrann, brengt Dark Essence Records ook een nieuwe EP uit. De cd bevat tracks die hiervoor verschenen waren op verschillende split releases. Onder andere de nummers Voldtekt, Lamb en Hennes Kalde Skamlepper staan op de EP.

Manowar release party....

Binnenkort komt Manowar's nieuwe album uit, getiteld Gods Of War, en de band houdt daarvoor een virtuele releaseparty. Dat houdt in dat je in de nacht van donderdag 22 op vrijdag 23 februari online naar het nieuwe album kunt luisteren, op deze website. Vanaf 26 februari moet het album ook in de winkels te vinden zijn. Wie de band volgende maand nog live gaat zien in het buitenland (ze komen niet naar Nederland namelijk), kan daar een gratis t-shirt krijgen. Manowar waardeert het zeer als fans van verre naar de shows komen, en wil dit op deze manier kenbaar maken.

In a recent interview with Mark Carras of RockMyMonkey.com, SIX FEET UNDER bassist Terry Butler stated about the upcoming CD, "I would say, if I had to describe the new style, it would be 'Maximum Violence' meets 'Haunted'. . . I'm really psyched about it. I really liked it. We had a good writing experience. We wrote all the music in the studio and it just flowed through. It's pretty upbeat the whole time, but there's some really catchy, groovy riffs. I think SFU fans are going to like it a lot, especially some of the older, the people who've been around for a long time listening to us, it will satisfy them. The last couple records we've kind of, I don't want to say gotten off our style, but we've always tried to be a little bit different. We didn't want to always just put ten records that sounded like 'Haunted'. So we just kind of, I don't want to say experimented, but we just kind of messed around a little bit, certain styles, but I think this is kind of back to what our fans would expect."

20 jaar schorem

2007 is een feestelijk jaar. Dit jaar vieren we namelijk de 20e verjaardag van Scum, het geboortekaartje van de grindcore. Laat de tepeltaart met kaarsjes maar komen! Platenlabel Earache zou zichzelf niet zijn als deze er niet een passende rerelease bij op de markt zou gooien.

Scum wordt heruitgebracht als dualdisc met op de schemerzijde een documentaire die de begindagen van de band belicht. Klinkt interessant. Er wordt gekeken naar de scene in die tijd, de herkomst van de band en de invloed die de band met haar noise had op haar nakomelingen.De release staat gepland op 19 maart.

Of de band er zelf blij mee is valt nog te bezien. De samenwerking met Earache werd immers niet in harmonie afgesloten.

Uitstel Everon album

Dear All

I know many of you are wondering why "North" still hasn´t seen the light of day, and those of you who´ve been writing me noticed that, unlike I usually do, I didn´t reply to any of the mails I received. I apologize for that, the reason why I didn´t answer is, that the delay of the album is caused by an all private issue and actually my intention was to keep it as such.

Then again as more and more time passes without any progress off course we owe you kind of an explanation, so here it is. Unfortunately I am facing a severe health-problem for quite some time already, and recovery just takes a lot longer than I expected. At the circumstances given there is no point in making any prediction for a release date yet, as soon as we can we´ll let you know about it. Thanks for your patience and please don´t worry me for not going into details upon my state of health, I really don´t want this to be a public issue and I am sure you all understand that. But anyway you should know at least that the band didn´t disappear or break up or anything like that, it´s a compeltely unintended timeout which unfortunately lasts clearly longer than any of us expected. But like with everything in life, also to this story there is two sides off course; so when they say good things take their time, this obviously means with all the time this took it will certainly have to come out as something really brilliant in the end. I am sorry for letting you guys wait that long, but it´s just not in my hands this time.

Engine of pain - I am your enemy

De Nederlandse band Engine Of Pain is een relatief jonge band die sinds 2004 een arsenaal heeft aan albums welke bestaat uit een demo en deze beschreven full length. De band heeft al gespeeld op Wacken Open Air en heeft meegedaan aan de Metal Bash. Ja, deze knakkers weten wel van aanpoten, maar even luisteren waarom deze band toch wel een redelijk indrukwekkende C.V. heeft kunnen opbouwen.

Het valt niet te ontkennen, als je dit opzet is het eerste wat je denkt The Haunted. Nou is dit helemaal niet negatief, EoP is een stuk opgefokter en maniakaler, vooral qua vocalen. Deze zijn een stuk rauwer dan de gemiddelde thrashplaat en dat is helemaal niet erg. De gitaren spelen met een gortdroog geluid riffs die lekker weg luisteren, ze hebben de juiste balans tussen scherpe thrash riffs en melodieus gevoel. De drums spelen naar behoeven zonder muzikaal opschepperij. Het tempo ligt niet al te hoog, meer mid tempo, ook de uitschieters zijn op een relatief laag tempo. Da's het enige minpuntje wat puur subjectief genoemd moet worden.

Een nette plaat die toch maar even laat zien dat Nederland degelijke kwaliteits bands kent die de rest van de wereld ook maar eens moet aanschouwen.

Solo album gitarist Sepultura

Sepultura-gitarist Andreas Kisser werkt aan een solo-album, getiteld Hubris 1 & 2, en zoals de titel al doet vermoeden wordt het een dubbel-cd. De opnames zijn nog altijd aan de gang, in de A Voz do Brasil studio in São Paulo. Op 14 september moet Kisser wel klaar zijn, want dan moet de cd uitkomen. De fans kunnen echter alvast meekijken, want op YouTube heeft de gitarist wat beelden vanuit de studio gezet.

Titel nieuw album Joe Lynn Turner

JOE LYNN TURNER's (ex-DEEP PURPLE, RAINBOW) next solo disc, titled Second Hand Life, is being mixed in February and March and will be out in early spring in Japan and Europe. There are 11 tracks on each of the albums. Each one has a unique bonus track.

The CD is scheduled for an April 4 release in Japan and at a date to be announced in Europe on Frontiers. There is also a possibility of a USA release.

The major players on the album are: JLT, Karl Cochran (guitars), Bob Held and Karl Cochran (bass), Michael Cartellone (drums) and Gary Corbett (keyboards).

Working on new songs!

A couple of days ago Björn called me and said that In Flames are in the studio and recording three new demo songs. The plan is to do the whole pre production on their own. Yesterday Daniel finalised the last song on the drums and right now Björn and Jesper is recording the guitars. There is big excitement in the band right now, they are back in their own studio (IF studios) for the pre production and eventually recording the next record. Next, the festival in Dubai, witch is unbroken territory for In Flames. Then get back on the road to do the Norway/Sweden tour. Be sure to keep an eye on the band photo section of the site. It will be updated frequently during the next couple of days.

Theshold zet nieuwe track online

Threshold zet nieuwe track online

De Britse progressieve metallers Threshold hebben op hun website een nieuw nummer online gezet.

Het gaat om het nummer Slipstream, openingstrack van het aankomende album Dead Reckoning. Op het nummer is een gastoptreden te horen van de Zweedse producer en multi-instrumentalist Dan Swanö, onder andere bekend van Edge of Sanity, Nightingale en Bloodbath.

Op 5 maart brengt Threshold de (download) single Pilot in the Sky of Dreams uit en op 23 maart zal het album Dead Reckoning uitkomen via Nuclear Blast Records.

ALCHEMIST TOERT IN HET NAJAAR WEER IN EUROPA

Het Australische ALCHEMIST keert in oktober terug op de Europese podia, waarbij het in Nederland als headliner speelt op PROGPOWER in Baarlo op 6 oktober. De toer valt samen met de release van het verse studioalbum ‘Tripsis’. Begin april start de band met producer D.W. NORTON aan de opnamen van die CD. Enkele titels die je op de plaat zult tegenkomen zijn „Communic Hate”, „God Shaped Hole”, „Nothing In Notime” en „Environmental”.

Bolt Thrower....

Bolt Thrower bezig met nieuw werk

In een interview dat Bolt Thrower zanger Karl Willets met MetalReview.com had ga hij aan dat de band momenteel nieuwe nummers schrijft. Ook geeft hij aan dat hij weer helemaal deel uit maakt van de band.

Willets over de huidige stand van zaken: “It looks like we are going to be pretty much writing the album now. Baz already has a few riffs ready to go. We bandied a few ideas around last night, so hopefully we'll have a new album out by the end of the year to follow up the success we had with the last album and push on from there.”

Studio
Willetts: “We are definitely going to go back to Sable Rose Studios where we recorded our last album. It's like a second home to us really, we feel quite comfortable there. Andy Faulkner (producer) is pretty much part of the band really.”

Tussentijd
“After a pretty disastrous U.S. tour in 1994-95, I wanted to go back to the university for three years”, vertelt Willets. “Got my degree in Cultural Studies, which is very nice, but absolutely useless for getting a job. Then I got married, mortgage, blah, blah, blah. Had a normal job for about 4-5 years, that didn't suite me whatsoever. I was working in insurance and kinda resented it."

Terugkeer
"I came back in 1998 to do the 'Mercenary' album because they asked me to. They asked me to rejoin the band, but my head was in a different place and I couldn't commit 100 percent to doing it. I'm always going to be the first choice for the vocalist of Bolt Thrower. It's kinda my job really. So with that thought, it really didn't take me much thinking to grab it and be welcomed back with open arms. It's rare in life to get two chances to do something that you enjoy.”

Altijd mooi om een nieuw album van Bolt Thrower in het vooruitzicht te hebben. Vooral aangezien de band met haar laatste plaat Those Once Loyal zijn mindere voorganger Honour, Valour, Pride heeft doen vergeten.

Nieuw G3 USA Tour

Een G3 tour in Amerika is vandaag de dag heel normaal. De Amerikanen krijgen wederom een geweldige line-up voorgeschoteld tijdens deze volgende editie van de G3 Tour. Naast Joe Satriani zullen niemand minder dan Paul Gilbert en John Petrucci deel nemen aan deze happening. Nou maar hopen dat ondanks dat ome Joe net is geweest, ze met zijn drieën de overstap naar Europa willen maken en dat de rest van de wereld het niet alleen hoeft te doen met een live dvd en cd van deze 2007 editie want de laatste keer dat er hier een G3 tour plaats vond is al weer veels te lang geleden.

Earlier tonight at the 49th annual Grammy Awards at The Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, SLAYER was awarded The Grammy for Best Metal Performance for 'Eyes Of The Insane' from their Christ Illusion album. Sadly, the award was not part of the televised broadcast.

The other nominees in the Best Metal Performance category were: LAMB OF GOD for 'Redneck', MASTODON for 'Colony Of Birchmen', MINISTRY for 'Lies, Lies, Lies' and 'STONE SOUR for '30/30-150'.

This was Slayer's second Grammy nomination, the first being in 2002 for the track 'Disciple' from God Hates Us All, also in the Best Metal Performance category. TOOL took home The Grammy that year for 'Schism'.

Slayer is currently headlining a North American tour and did not attend the Grammy presentation, but vocalist/bassist Tom Araya had this to say about the win from his hotel room in Columbus, OH: " Jeff (Hanneman, guitarist) and I put a lot into 'Eyes Of The Insane' so we're thrilled that the Grammy voters took the time to listen to it, and then vote for it. We're out here on the road and we're all really, really happy."

30 april is de releasedatum van ‘In Sorte Diaboli’, het nieuwe album van Dimmu Borgir (Nuclear Blast). Dit achtste album van de band is opgenomen in Studio Fredman in Göthenburg, Zweden met achter de knoppen de producers Fredrik Nordström en Patrick J. Sten. In de aanloop naar de releasedatum heeft Nuclear Blast een nieuwspagina gelanceerd, waar je terecht kunt voor updates en studioreports.

Autumn tekent bij Metal Blade

De Groningse gothic metalband Autumn heeft getekend bij Metal Blade. In de Graveland Studio heeft de band, samen met producer Arno Krabman, een nieuwe langspeler opgenomen, getiteld ‘My New Time’. Jochem Jacobs (gitarist Textures) heeft de plaat gemixt in zijn Split Second Sound Studio. Naar verwachting komt de plaat in mei uit. Een exacte releasedatum volgt nog. Autumns laatste studioalbum, ‘Summer’s End’, verscheen in 2005 (The Electric Co./Universal).

....webshops!!!

Yeah we kunnen het wel van de daken schreeuwen...... Metal Plaza is vandaag officieel de testfase van de webshops ingegaan en daar zijn we erg trots op en dus weer een mooi moment een kleine nieuws-flash te doen. Testen doen we met diegene die zich als eerste met groot enthousiasme heeft aangemeld namelijk Theo Samson van The Rock. Met Theo zal er uitvoerig getest gaan worden en indien alles naar wens is en optimaal functioneert zal deze webshop als eerste worden gelanceerd!
De verwachting is dat dit binnen enkele weken definitief zal gaan gebeuren.

Ook Metal Plaza zal een eigen webshop gaan openen. Dit om gadgets zoals shirts, mokken, stickers en dergelijke te kunnen gaan aanbieden aan de bezoekers van Metal Plaza. Ook zijn we op de achtergrond bezig met het opzetten van een unieke gadget en we zijn wat dat betreft al in een verder gevorderd stadium. Binnenkort meer over dit prachtig schop-baar initiatief!
