There hasn't been much heard from the Limp Bizkit camp in quite some time, but the group's ex-guitarist, Wes Borland, will soon change that. On June 5, his new band, Black Light Burns, will release its debut, "Cruel Melody," which focuses more on Borland's musical quirks than the heavy rock of Limp Bizkit.
"There are remnants of what I used to do, but there are also new things that I've explored that I'm expressing now," Borland tells Billboard.com. "I would compare my previous work as 'knuckleheaded and immature,' and basically sort of really heavy party music. Which is never what I wanted to do. I was really behind [the debut Bizkit album] 'Three Dollar Bill Y'all,' and then because of how chaotic it was, was less happy with the music from there on. This is me 'redirecting'."
Produced by former Nine Inch Nails member Danny Lohner (who also plays bass), "Cruel Melody" also finds Josh Freese handling drum duties and Josh Eustis playing keyboards, while Borland pulls double duty as lead vocalist. On a forthcoming tour, Borland will be flanked by second guitarist Nick Annis, bassist Sean Fetterman and drummer Marshall Kilpatric (formerly of the Esoteric).
While some tracks will please longtime Bizkit fans (namely "Coward"), many detour off into territory usually occupied by Nine Inch Nails ("Animal") and Queens Of The Stone Age ("Mesopotamia"). Ex-Concrete Blonde vocalist Johnette Napolitano also makes an appearance on "I Am Where It Takes Me."
The album will be the first to be issued via Ross Robinson's new label, I Am: Wolfpack, and Borland couldn't be happier about his new home. "There's all these fresh people involved, and it's literally like I just went to heaven -- it's so easy to make moves now," he says. "It's literally like three or four people make a decision together, instead of an endless amount of paperwork."
Black Light Burns will make its live debut April 30 at the NARM convention, with more dates to follow. The band has also gotten a head start on album number two, having already penned five new tracks for the projected release, to be issued next year.
And for those still wondering, what are the chances of Borland playing beside Fred Durst once more? "You can never tell what's going to happen, because life is very up-and-down and interesting -- it throws new things my way all the time," he admits. "So you can never say 'never' to anything, but I seriously doubt it. Black Light Burns to me is like going out with the hottest girl in school. Why would I want to go back to going out with someone who's not very good looking to me and restricts me from doing anything? It's like, 'Wow, this is so awesome and easy.' Why would I want to go back to something so hard and painful for me?"

Tour data Rush
RUSH officially confirmed two Dutch shows in October. The band will play Rotterdam Ahoy on October 16th and 17th. Nieuw album Carnal Forge
‘Testify For My Victims’ (artwork) is de titel van het nieuwe studioalbum van Carnal Forge. De release hiervan (via Candlelight Records) staat gepland in mei, aanstaande. Dit zesde album van de Zweedse thrash metalformatie is opgenomen en geproduceerd door de band zelf en is gemixt in de Black Lounge Studios te Avesta, Zweden. ‘Testify For My Victims’ is de opvolger van ‘Aren’t You Dead Yet?’ uit 2004 (Century Media).
Nieuw werk Devin Townsend
Het nieuwe soloalbum van muzikaal multi-talent Devin Townsend heet ‘Ziltoid the Omniscient’ (artwork) en verschijnt komende zomer (via Inside Out Music). Het album komt uit onder de naam Devin Townsend, in plaats van The Devin Townsend Band. De Canadees heeft ‘Ziltoid the Omniscient’ namelijk helemaal in zijn eentje opgenomen en geproduceerd. Begin vorig jaar bracht The Devin Townsend Band de full-length ‘Synchestra’ uit (Inside Out).

"There it is. Another clip of the recordings. Boud did some riffage, speedpicking and grooving magic on his Les Paul. From what I heard it's quite a heavy song, and one of the fastests on the album. This time there were no crashing computers so Boud did record some actual takes(as shown in the clip). Check it out here."
In addition, drummer Ed Warby has filed the following repotz:
"Spent most of the day at the Excess studio's working on vocals with JC, and had the privilige to hear some of the lead work being done by Mr B. One very intricate lead in the imaginatively titled GF1, a brutal bit of chaos hreddery in GF2, some twinnies and a majestic multi-layered piece in GF4. Impressive stuff so far!
The vocals are coming together nicely as well; we're still piecing together lines and words for a few songs, but we're almost there. 2 more to go that really need a lot of work, the other ones are close to finished.
It's cool how the stuff we have still suprises me every time I hear it. I find myself thinking 'Is this us? Holy fuck!' Unless we mess everything up in the final stages (which we won't of course, but just for argument's sake) this is going to be a fucken monster indeed.
I was at the studio again briefly today and was treated to some more lead/melody stuff. One bit I heard was gorgeousness and gorgeousity rolled into one, followed by a furious wah attack; this'll definitely blow you guys' socks right off. Boud seems to be going for some less obvious sounds and parts, which is creating some very interesting mood and colour changes in the songs. I think headphone fanatics are gonna have a great time listening to this album!"

Bill Steer open voor Carcass reunie
After years of consistently shooting down any possibility of a CARCASS reunion, guitarist Bill Steer appears to be finally changing his tune. In a brand new interview conducted last week in London by Patrizia Mazzuoccolo of the Norwegian metal radio show "Tinitus", Steer had the following to say when asked if there was a chance that CARCASS could reunite for some live performances: "It's a possibility 'cos it's been discussed. I've become a little bit more open to the idea. The other guys are definitely open to the idea. You never know."

"Tinitus" is Norway's most popular metal show with an average of over 60,000 listeners per week (1.5 percent of the country's population!).

Speaking to Metal-Rules.com last fall, former CARCASS frontman Jeff Walker stated the following about the possibility of a CARCASS reunion: "Mike Amott [guitar, now in ARCH ENEMY] really wants to do it. I spoke to him on the phone the other week, and he wants to get Bill to Sweden to convince him to do it. If those two guys wanna do it, then I'll do it. Ken [Owen, drums] can't do it. I asked him last year [2005] that if we did it, would he be upset, and he's like, 'No, do it, go for it.' I was at Download [in 2005], and all these bands were playing, all these American bands, and they were all like AT THE GATES/CARCASS/PARADISE LOST rip-off bands. I just thought 'Fuck, this is so easy. We could do it so much better.' I was really enthusiastic about doing it. I was on the stage with H.I.M. playing, watching them play to 60,000 people — we never did that. It would be great to be playing to that kind of audience. I've been doing so much stuff since then that I don't need to do it to make myself happy. . . We weren't a very good band anyway. I can still do those vocals at the drop of a hat. I'd have to try and remember all the bass lines. The problem is Bill's lost interest — he hasn't played like that for a long time. So he would have to retrain himself. But if anyone can, he can, because he's such an intelligent guy. If he was here, he would say 'Never say never'. At the moment it Mike's pushing Bill, because he really wants to do it. He's always joked about doing it, and I was always like 'fuck off — no way!' Then he's talking it's like 'maybe next year.' It's not my decision. If Bill does it then I'll do it."

Enske metaal 2 release
31 Maart aanstaande verschijnt Enske Metaal 2, de nieuwe verzamel-CD die is samengesteld door de Enschedese HeadBangers Organistatie. De Enschedese HeadBangers Organisatie, afgekort EHBO, is de grootste metalvereniging van Nederland die 7,5 jaar geleden is opgericht om metal en hardrock in en rondom Enschede te promoten. Dit wordt onder andere bereikt door het organiseren van concerten in de regio en met de landelijke Metal Battle.
In 2003 is voor het eerst een CD verschenen met daarop 12 bands uit de omgeving van Enschede. Nu vier jaar later is het tijd voor de opvolger, waarop maarliefst 25 bands hun kunsten ten gehore brengen in de meest uiteenlopende metalgenres.

Muziek six feet under online
Ter introductie van ‘Commandment’, het nieuwe studioalbum van Six Feet Under, zijn op deze pagina alvast de albumtracks ‘Doomsday’ en ‘Resurrection Of The Rotten’ (in zijn geheel) te beluisteren. Dit achtste album van de death metalband uit Tampa, Florida (de beide Graveyard Classics niet meegerekend) wordt op 23 april aanstaande (door Metal Blade) uitgebracht. studio nieuws Soilwork
Soilwork zit momenteel middenin de opnames van hun nieuwe, vooralsnog titelloze album. De gitaar- en drumpartijen zijn opgenomen. Voor het opnemen van de vocalen wordt de band technisch bijgestaan door SYL-frontman en producer Devin Townsend. Via een online studioreport kun je op de hoogte blijven van de vorderingen van de band. Dit zevende Soilwork-album is de eerste met gitarist Daniel Antonsson (Dimension Zero, Pathos) die recent de opgestapte Peter Wichers kwam vervangen.

C Amott terug bij Arch enemy
The Amott Brothers Re-United! Christopher Amott returns to Arch Enemy
Arch Enemy are pleased to be able to announce that original guitarist Christopher Amott is rejoining the band with immediate effect. The band, having finished an intense 18 month touring cycle all over the world promoting the "Doomsday Machine’ album and "Live Apocalypse" DVD, are currently busy working on songs for their new studio album.
Christopher surprised many by departing Arch Enemy at the end of the "Doomsday Machine’ recording sessions in 2005, having been in the band for 10 years (starting with Arch Enemy at age 18). Christopher followed his urge to see the outside world and find what else is out there apart from music. Having done that, the time is right for him to return to the fold with a newly injected bite and focus and to resume his career.
Commenting on the re-grouping announcement he states:
"This is very exciting for me, returning to Arch Enemy as a fulltime member! Right now we are working on our forthcoming album and I'm very pleased about the way it's turning out. The new songs are fast and furious with lots of melody! To all the people who sent me kind messages while I was out of the band, thank you for your support, it helped me a lot. After this (much needed) two year break, I'm looking forward to getting back on the road. I hope to see you all later this year!"
Arch Enemy mastermind Michael Amott compliments his younger brother Christopher perfectly in style and chemistry and together they have become one of the most infamous and ripping guitar teams in extreme metal. Michael comments:
"So, we are back with my brother Christopher on guitar - it's a huge rush to have him back playing in his signature style! He's jumped in at the end of the songwriting process for the new album and added some of his unique spice! I feel Christopher's playing has matured and is more precise and even faster than before! Guitar fans are going to freak on the stuff we are getting up to on the new album!"

Arch Enemy have spent the last weeks locked in intense rehearsals at their homebase in Halmstad, Sweden, putting the final touches to the new material and integrating Christopher on the new songs for the forthcoming studio album. More news on this will follow in the next few days, so stay tuned…

Entombed eindelijk aan het mixen
Al het goede komt snel. Nou, niet dus. Entombed doet namelijk al een tijdje over haar nieuwe cd. Alle nummers zijn nu echter opgenomen en de band zet momenteel de mix op poten. Dat laat ze weten via Candlelight Records UK. Enkele flarden uit het persbericht:
“Yesterday we got final mixes on the songs ‘In The Blood’ and ‘The Dead, The Dying And The Dying To Be Dead’ with top man Soren Elofsson at the console. He’s helping us tweak the mix and will most likely master the beast at cosmos mastering, Stockholm, Sweden, later this month.”
De band bracht halverwege vorig jaar de EP When In Sodom uit (recensie Platomania & nummers op MySpace). Het predikaat opwarmertje is natuurlijk niet meer van toepassing. Muzikaal gezien borduurt Entombed er wel op verder. “Musically, Serpents Saints goes wider and deeper than the When In Sodom EP but it’s a pretty good indicator. It’s no concept album but an ambitious attempt at creating a solid album with some reoccurring themes. Almost like the sound track to the film with the same name. Get the picture? You don’t need to.”

Amorphis nieuws
Op 31 augustus komt (via Nuclear Blast) de nieuwe en zevende full-length van het Finse Amorphis uit. Dit vooralsnog titelloze album is opgenomen in de Sonic Pump Studios te Helsinki en zal in de vermaarde Finnvox Studios worden gemixt door Mikko Karmila (o.a. Nightwish, Stratovarius). ‘Eclipse’, Amorphis’ laatste album verscheen in februari van vorig jaar (Nuclear Blast).
Nieuw nummer Vreid online
Vreid, de Noorse black metalband rond drie voormalige Windir-leden, hebben de laatste hand gelegd aan ‘I Krig (At War)’, hun nieuwe studioalbum. Een van de negen tracks op deze derde Vreid-langspeler heet ‘Under Isen’ en is hier alvast te downloaden. In Noorwegen verschijnt de plaat op 8 mei (via Indie Recordings). Releasedata voor de rest van Europa en de VS volgen binnenkort.
Geen godslastering Elsrock
Het jaarlijkse metalfestivalletje met de onschuldige naam Elsrock, dat plaats vindt in Rijssen had vorig jaar al te maken met de SGP en ChristenUnie. Het uiterlijk van metalheads en de songtekseten van sommige bands zouden godslastering zijn! Gelukkig hoeft het festival dit jaar niet bang te zijn voor een verbod, want de organisatie van Elsrock heeft aangekondigd dat dergelijke teksten niet zullen worden gehanteerd. De gemeente zal het festival zelf een bezoekje brengen om zelf eens te ervaren of dit zo godslatering zal zijn. Burgemeester Bort Koelewijn wil de organisatie van het festival strafrechtelijk laten vervolgen indien het toch gebeurt. De SGP zou het gehele festival het liefste afblazen. Wie weet voelen de Rijssenaren zich dit jaar niet gekwetst in hun godsdienstige gevoelens, maar drinken zij lekker een biertje mee...
Vibeke naar Nightwish?
Hoewel Nightwish nog niks wil bevestigen, gaan er toch geruchten dat ex-Tristania zangeres Vibeke (foto) de gelederen van Nightwish zal gaan versterken. Dit viel onder andere in de Finse krant Ilta Sanomat te lezen. We wachten af en houden jullie vanzelfsprekend op de hoogte.

Fear Factory remixen
Fear Factory werkt momenteel aan een remix cd. De release ervan staat gepland voor later dit jaar. Een voorproefje krijgen we alvast in de vorm van de remix van Supernova. Supernova staat in originele vorm op het album Transgression. De remix is hier te horen.
De band is momenteel weer labelloos. Iets wat zanger Burton C. Bell niet vervelend lijkt te vinden: "Right now we're a completely independent band. We're free of labels and free of all sorts of things, so it's all about the music right now."

Nieuwe bassist Shining
Het Zweedse black metal gezelschap Shining hebben de volgende update op hun MySpace geplaatst:
"After a couple weeks of searching replacement for the late Hallander, an aquintance of the past establishes contact, former bassist (Angst & The Eerie Cold) Phil A. Cirone is back!!!
Now with the new album just around the corner and a full line-up again Shining are preparing an extensive live-set which will be forced upon the masses this autumn, tour dates will follow shortly..."

Stichting Zware metalen
Vele van de vaste bezoekers waren er al van op de hoogte, Paul Hildebrand gaat stoppen, hij heeft alle tijd nodig om twee nieuwe headbangertjes op te voeden. Daarmee wensen wij hem veel succes en bedanken we hem voor alles wat hij voor Zware Metalen en voor de Nederlandse metal gedaan heeft!
Sommige bezoekers waren bang dat met het vertrekken van Paul de site een stille dood zou sterven. Niets is minder waar, er is al een nieuwe server gevonden (eeuwige dank aan Robbemans), waardoor in ieder geval de technische mogelijkheid voor ZM blijft bestaan. Maar er moet ook iemand zijn die het hele zooitje ongeregeld aanstuurt, en daarvoor is het oude idee van een stichting van onder het stof uit gehaald.
Onlangs is onder het genot van een fors geprijsd kopje koffie en een gesprekje over Guns 'n Roses en The Beatles de akte ondertekend waarmee de Stichting Zwaremetalen een feit is geworden.
Doel
Middels deze stichting denken wij dat de toekomst van Zwaremetalen.com beter te waarborgen is en dat we onze doelstelling, het promoten van metal op welke manier dan ook, beter kunnen nastreven. Eén van de eerste manieren is door het MetalAs concert in samenwerking met PopAs op 14 April in het Mercuriustheater te Assen met Next Waste Dimension, Fuelblooded, The Embodiment en Dying Flame. Kom langs en drink een biertje met ons!

Om die doelstelling na te kunnen streven zijn keiharde euro's nodig. Euro's waarmee we de vaste kosten kunnen betalen en waarmee we meer manieren voor die promotie kunnen verkennen en uitvoeren. RIP: Scrars of Tomorrow
De Californische metalcoreformatie Scars Of Tomorrow is niet meer. Na een carrière van ongeveer acht jaar vinden de bandleden het mooi geweest. Op Myspace.com/sot is een uitvoerige verklaring te vinden, waarin het hoe en waarom van de split nader wordt toegelicht. Scars Of Tomorrow bracht (via Victory Records ) in totaal drie full-lengths uit: ‘Rope Tied To The Trigger’ (2002), ‘The Horror Of Realization’ (2005) en ‘The Failure In Drowning’ (2006).
Impact Sick of it all
Onder de titel ‘Our Impact Will Be Felt’ verschijnt op 24 april aanstaande (via Abacus Recordings) een heuse Sick Of It All tributeplaat. Hierop worden twintig klassiekers van de New Yorkse hardcoreband onder handen genomen door evenveel vooraanstaande namen in hardcore- en metalland, waaronder Sepultura, Madball, Napalm Death en Ignite. Voorafgaand aan de release zijn op Myspace.com/soiatribute elke week twee tracks van het album te beluisteren. Deze week zijn dat Madball's versie van ‘Give Respect’ en ‘My Life’, vertolkt door Pennywise.
Jubileum album Vader
On March 15 VADER have entered Hertz Studio to begin recording session of their 25-years anniversary album. The record will feature 25 songs presenting 2 last decades of VADER's history, some rare tracks and specials! It's gonna be released somewhere around 2008. Here's Peter's report from the first day at the studio:
Me and Daray arrived to the Hertz Studio on 15th March to start recordings of an album, which is very special indeed. This is gonna be 25 songs taken from Vader's early records. We put an attention mostly on "The Ultimate Incantation", "De Profundis", "Black to the Blind" or "Litany" also mini albums released in between. 2008 is the year when Vader took its name and started to exist as a band... With such an unusual material we'd like to enjoy the anniversary and close up the early days of Vader to the newest generation of our die-hard Fans. For a first time the songs from so different produced records will be available on one album. All the songs we will make from the scratch, so they'll sound more fresh with more or less re-arranged. Of course- we're gonna put some never-ever released very old stuff but... this is "top secret" at the moment. Interesting might be also Guests from Worlds Metal Scene, who will appear on the album on various songs. They are our Friends and Brothers-in- Arms, who already made a lot for Metal. What can I add is, that we plan to do special edition of the album including video shots from very early days or photo album with never released old picturies specially chosen for this anniversary release. Lottsa work, lottsa memories... but first of all- a lot of Total Massacre from over two decades of creation of unholy Metal Medness !!!! We start today...

Royal Hunt zonder zanger
ROYAL HUNT and John West have decided that at this time (after numerous albums and concert tours) they are no longer able to contribute creatively to each other’s future musical development. It’s been a hell of a ride, but both parties feel like it is about time to move on and explore different musical paths - therefore, they mutually agreed to part ways as of March 16th, 2007 .
“We’re not ruling out possible future collaborations for a joint venture or a side project” – André and John state - “but it won’t be under the RH moniker”.
John had joined Royal Hunt in 1999 during the recording of the “Fear” album and he worked with the band until our latest release – live CD/DVD “Royal Hunt 2006”. We’d like to express our gratitude to John for a great 8-year run and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Dark Balance nieuwe NL label
Met de oprichting van Dark Balance is Nederrland een nieuw metallabel rijker. De mensen van het label brengen zichzelf als volgt onder de aandacht:
Metal, metal en nog eens metal: daar gaat het om draaien bij Dark Balance. Het label specialiseert zich niet in een bepaald subgenre, oftewel alle vormen van metal zijn welkom. Wel streeft Dark Balance vooral naar het uitbrengen van nieuw, veelbelovend talent. Overigens zijn bands van over de hele wereld welkom.
Het eerste wapenfeit bestaat uit een release van Metal Battle semi-finalist Picture Of The Moon. De EP Ageless Day is geproduceerd door Joost van den Broek (After Forever) en is vastgelegd in de Excess Studios te Rotterdam. Muzikaal gezien maakt Picture Of The Moon progressieve rock/metal, denk aan een smeltkroes van Threshold en Riverside. De officiële releasedatum voor Ageless Day is 1 juni 2007, maar de nummers zijn al te horen tijdens de prerelease party op 14 april 2007 in Atak, Enschede. Ook is een track van de EP te beluisteren op de MySpace site van Picture Of The Moon, Picture Of The Moon MySpace.

De band is onlangs opgericht door Katy Decker, een professioneel geschoolde operazangeres met ruime ervaring binnen de operascène. Om iets te noemen: als hoofdrolspeelster heeft Katy Decker diverse opera�s uitgevoerd bij het Orlando Opera en het Atlanta Opera. Mena Brinno duikt deze zomer de studio in om de tracks van hun eerste EP aan te vullen tot een full-length album. De release hiervan volgt in de tweede helft van 2007, hoogst waarschijnlijk gevolgd door een tour van de band door West-Europa. Twee nummers zijn al te beluisteren via Mena Brinno MySpace.

Zanger uit Born From Pain
Na tien jaar heeft zanger Che besloten dat zijn prioriteiten niet langer bij Born From Pain liggen. Een vervanger is inmiddels in Carl Schwartz (First Blood) gevonden, zodat er geen shows hoeven worden afgezegd. Che en Born From Pain gaan als vrienden uit elkaar.
Uriah Heep heeft nieuwe drummer
Eerder konden we jullie melden dat drummer Lee Kerslake om gezondheidsredenen de band moest verlaten en dat de band driftig op zoek was naar een vervanger. Inmiddels hebben ze die gevonden in de persoon van Russell Gilbrook.

Leden verlaten Sphere of Souls
Sphere Of Souls, de nieuwe band van ex-Sun Caged zanger André Vuurboom, heeft afscheid genomen van gitarist Anand Mahangoe en drummer Ruud van Diepen. Sphere Of Souls is nu opzoek naar capabele vervangers, en Anand gaat verder met zijn solo-band.
Exodus drummer keert terug
Exodus gitarist Gary Holt heeft een update op de website van de band geplaatst waarin te lezen is dat drummer Tom Hunting weer terug is bij Exodus en hoe het zit met het nieuwe werk van de heren.

I'd like to take a moment here and welcome back Tom Hunting to the drum throne of Exodus. It was always understood that when and if Tom was ever ready to resume his drumming duties for the band his seat would be waiting. Paul always knew this, and was the first to say it upon joining the band. Paul and Tom always have been good friends and we, as a band, cannot thank Paul enough for his services on "Shovel Head" and all subsequent tours. We had a great time, and kicked many asses along the way. Paul has given this reunion his whole endorsement with no mixed blessings, and is happy to see Tom back in the fold. Now someone may just become the luckiest suckers in the world, because one hell of a drummer is on the market! We wish Paul all the best, and he will always be a member of the extended Exodus family.
That having been said, we are so excited to have Tom back in the band he co-founded. He, other than the time spent out of the band, is the only drummer I've ever played with, and him and I have an unspoken language of metal that I am stoked to continue.
We are hard at work on the new songs, and this shit is the best and heaviest music we've ever written. I've kept quiet until now, because everyone always brags about how great the new shit is. But this is no boast. This album will redefine thrash metal as we no it. We will be hitting the studio mid- May with Mr. Sneap, and you have been warned."

That having been said, we are so excited to have Tom back in the band he co-founded. He, other than the time spent out of the band, is the only drummer I've ever played with, and him and I have an unspoken language of metal that I am stoked to continue.
We are hard at work on the new songs, and this shit is the best and heaviest music we've ever written. I've kept quiet until now, because everyone always brags about how great the new shit is. But this is no boast. This album will redefine thrash metal as we no it. We will be hitting the studio mid- May with Mr. Sneap, and you have been warned."

After a decade in the band, both Thomas Väänänen and Henrik Svegsjö have decided to leave Thyrfing. They have informed us that they lack the motivation needed for another album. We have split ways on good terms, and would like to thank them for all these great years. With this being said, we hereby welcome Jens Rydén to the band as new vocalist. Jens is best known as founding member and ex-vocalist of Naglfar and recently also for his one-man army Profundi. We all feel very enthusiastic about bringing new blood into the band and it will be very interesting to write and compile the next Thyrfing album together. For the time being we will go on with one guitar player, and time will tell what happens to the second guitar position…

The threat is real: Zondag 25 maart vindt er in Café Rocks in Enschede de Midtown Rockquiz Roadshow ‘Quiz ‘em all’ plaats. 'Quiz 'em all' is een (hard)rock en metal quiz met hoge entertainment-waarde. Dus niet alleen droog vraagjes beantwoorden, maar full on metal entertainment. Audio, beeld, interactie!

Meshuggah nieuws
Het Zweedse Meshuggah gaat een dezer dagen beginnen met de opnames van een nieuw album, dit meldt de band op zijn website. Het album moet in september gaan uitkomen.

Down in de studio
Samen met producer Warren Riker (o.a. Crowbar, Sublime) werken de mannen van Down momenteel in een studio te Los Angeles aan de opnames van hun derde studioalbum, voorlopig getiteld 'III Down'. Wanneer ‘Down III’ verwacht kan worden, is nog niet bekend. Een live-uitvoering van het nieuwe nummer ‘I Scream’ is te vinden op YouTube. Downs laatste album, ‘II A Bustle In Your Hedgerow’, dateert van maart 2002 (Elektra).
Naer Mataron ....
De Poolse black metalband Naer Mataron heeft getekend bij Season Of Mist Records. Het Poolse drietal laat weten al een hele reeks nieuwe tracks geschreven te hebben en voornemens te zijn binnenkort de studio in te duiken voor de opnames van een nieuwe, vooralsnog titelloze full-length. In Naer Matarons dertienjarig bestaan bracht (ondermeer) de band vier albums uit, waarvan de laatste, ‘Discipline Manifesto’, in 2005 verscheen (via Black Lotus Records).

6de album Deeds of Flesh komt eraan
De Amerikaanse death metalband Deeds Of Flesh is bezig met het schrijven van een nieuwe, zesde studioplaat. Daarop komt in ieder geval een heropgenomen versie van het nummer 'Infecting Them With Falsehood' te staan, oorspronkelijk van het album 'Inbreeding The Anthropophagi' uit 1998 (Repulse Records). Het drietal is voornemens in april te beginnen met de opnames en verwacht het vooralsnog titelloze album komende zomer uit te kunnen brengen (via het eigen Unique Leader Records).

Nieuw album Darkest Hour
De mannen van Darkest Hour zijn in studio The Warehouse te Vancouver, Canada begonnen met de opnames van een nieuw studioalbum. Een albumtitel is er al: ‘Deliver Us’. Evenals een releasedatum: 10 juli 2007 (Victory Records). Producer van dienst is Strapping Young Lad-opperhoofd Devin Townsend, die ook het laatste album van de band, ‘Undoing Ruin’ uit 2005 (Victory), produceerde. 'Deliver Us' wordt het vijfde studioalbum van de band.

Since our last tour we've received a lot of inquires about the future of SoP. As you may have heard on the Ayreon website, Arjen has been going through a very rough period on in his life; he has decided to quit the band and focus entirely on his new Ayreon album, which we know for sure will be a huge success so good luck with it, Arjen!
Besides Arjen, Lori and Alejandro have also decided to part ways and focus on their own personal lives and musical projects. We, the rest of the SoPies, wish the three of them all the success and happiness in the world.
HOWEVER THIS BY NO MEANS THE END OF THE BAND! The rest of us are extremely motivated to continue this beautiful story called Stream of Passion and give it a more than positive future, like we think it deserves. We are already busy writing music for a new album, so soon you'll hear more about our future plans and musical ideas. Stay tuned!

Konkhra nieuws
Konkhra, laatst kwamen er hier weer een paar platen van deze half vergeten band uit de kast. De eerste albums van de band zijn retesterk, maar bij het latere werk verslapt de aandacht toch al gauw. De Denen zitten momenteel weer in de studio. Zanger Anders Lundemark spreekt:
"Allright folks, we are getting closer: we just tracked the drums for song number nine, which has yet to be named properly, but could very well be doomed to carry the monicker 'Nothing Is Sacred'. We are planning on two more, and we are almost getting ready with them. We have also been talking to someone about doing some leadwork once again, will let everyone know what happens with that as soon as I can. Best guess is record finished around May, since finished the thing might include some international travelling."

After Forever gitarist Sander Gommans heeft een nummer van zijn project, HDK , geupload op zijn MySpace.
Het nummer draagt de titel Request en is volgens Sander een van de meer melodische nummers. De zang op het nummer wordt verzorgt door André Matos (ex-Angra, Shaaman, Virgo), de grunts die te horen zijn zullen heropgenomen worden.
Gommans omschrijft de muziek van HDK als "modern trash/death metal with a lot of melodic influences". De volgende muzikanten hebben aan het project meegewerkt tot nu toe:

Met een kort bericht op hun website hebben de heren van Hammerfall bekend gemaakt dat bassist Magnus Rosén niet langer bij de band speelt. Meer informatie zal binnenkort bekend worden als de band met een officieel persbericht komt.

Toen ik deze documentaire ging kijken waren mijn verwachtingen erg laag, want zo gaan er 13 van in een dozijn.
Echter, naarmate de film vorderde kreeg ik steeds meer de indruk dat de filmmaker hier echt wel flink is ingedoken.
Hij heeft diverse reizen gemaakt om festivals te bezoeken en metal grootheden te interviewen.
Ook besteedt hij aandacht aan de context van metal muziek, destijds in de jaren 80 met als middelpunt california maar ook in het heden met als middelpunt scandinavie.
Ik vond het een amusante film/documentaire, een aanrader....

Documentaire Randy Rhoads in de maak
With the blessings of the family of late OZZY OSBOURNE/QUIET RIOT guitarist Randy Rhoads, Dakota Pictures and director Peter Margolis will begin filming the "Randy Rhoads Documentary" on March 19, 2007 at the Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino, CA between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In hopes to fully capture the significance of the 25th anniversary of Randy's passing, the filmmakers will be interviewing as many of Randy's fans as possible.

Sepultura klaar voor de tour
Brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA are currently rehearsing for their upcoming European headlining tour, which is scheduled to kick off on March 6 in Stockholm. Support at the shows will come from Israeli metallers BETZEFER and South Africa's FOREVER WILL BURN.

SEPULTURA completed its first North American tour in nearly four years in December. Support at the shows came from SWORN ENEMY, DIECAST and SUICIDE SILENCE. The trek marked the band's debut U.S. appearance with their new drummer, Jean Dolabella (ex-UDORA), who replaced founding member Igor Cavalera in June. As previously reported, a nine-minute video interview with Andreas Kisser, conducted in early December 2006 by MetalMachine.net during the band's visit to New York City, has been posted online at this location (Windows Media).

Toxik weer bij elkaar!!
Toxik took a complex thrash metal base and mixed in progressive influences, thanks to Josh Christian's flashy guitarwork and Tad Leger's inventive drumming. Mike Sanders' wailing vocal style took a bit of getting used to, and some felt he detracted somewhat from the band's World Circus debut, a situation rectified with new singer Charles Sabin appearing on their followup, Think This. Toxik really should have been more popular and successful than they turned out to be, perhaps a victim of the numbers game, or internal conflicts prevented them from continuing.
As of February 2007, a largely original lineup (below) is back in action.

Soilwork heeft nieuwe gitarist
Na ruim een jaar zoeken heeft Soilwork een beslissing genomen over de nieuwe gitarist. Dimension Zero gitarist Daniel Antonsson neemt permanent de plaats in van Peter Wichers, die eind 2005 de band verliet om zich te richten op het produceren van platen. Met Antonsson gaan ze nu een nieuwe plaat opnemen, die later dit jaar moet uitkomen.

Killswitch Engage interview
Killswitch Engage, the New England band that damn near invented the melodic metalcore blueprint have every right to not care about this interview. They brought the genre to popular acclaim and led its success round the world, selling hundred of thousands of records and even more gig tickets in the process, They’re too important now, too big and too special to bother with something as small (but perfectly formed) as New Noise.
At least that’s what they could think. But in fact, just a few hours before concluding their UK tour by selling out one of those swiftly reorganised shows at London’s 5000-capacity Brixton Academy, bassist Mike D’Antonio seems all too happy to share a surprisingly friendly half-hour with us.
Ok, so, the obvious issues aside, how have the shows being going?
Honestly, pretty awesome. We have Peter (Wichers, of Soilwork) on guitar for a few shows and he’s just great. When Adam couldn’t do it he was our first pick. We’ve known him for quite a long time and not only is he a great friend, he’s an amazing guitar player.
Did you have to change the setlist for him though, take out any new songs?
Not really. He’s that good that we drilled him through the new songs, some of which he already knew, in two days, and he had the set nailed. I’m just as confident as if Adam were there.
How is Adam?
He’s ok now. He had to have surgery here because his back was deemed too bad to even fly home but everything went fine and he’s resting up. We will miss him of course but he wanted the tour to continue and we didn’t want to let anyone down.
And it would have been a lot of people. These are the biggest UK shows you’ve played aren’t they?
Yep, our biggest headline show here ever. We played Reading last year and Download was just insane but I actually forgot how big this place was.
Do you prefer bigger or smaller shows?
It’s obviously way more personal at smaller shows, I think everyone in the band loves that feeling of no barriers and no security, just kids piling on top of each other and really getting into it. But we can still do that sort of thing here, we played the Barfly not so long ago and that was awesome.
You do seem to be the guy in Killswitch that most enjoys the closer sort of interaction.
It’s all about contact and getting people excited. There’s no need for it to ever be one-sided, like "we are the performers and you are the crowd, we play, you listen". I remember one time watching Sepultura and the guitarist pointed to me and threw a pick out. I caught it and he gave me the thumbs up and I was thinking "Jesus, if I’m ever in that position I have to do stuff like that because that is coolest feeling ever". But everyone in the band feels like that I think. Even Adam loves the smaller shows because he can get way goofier and really see people’s reactions.
Are you surprised by your success or is it all part of a master plan?
It’s a total surprise. Our first time over here was part of a three-band Roadrunner tour and right before we left we got asked to headline. Instantly I had ulcers and stomach pains, I was so nervous. But from there things got bigger and better, we sold out shows and sold some records and the label here seems to really know their shit. That’s really helped.
Are you getting special treatment back home too? You’re the rock stars now and people must recognise that it was Killswitch who opened a lot of doors for Massachusetts bands and heavy bands in general.
I wish we did. I’m too normal to get recognised so I don’t get anything from that. And I never feel like a rock star. I feel great that the band has got me to some of the places it has but we’re just ordinary dudes.
Ordinary dudes huh? Come on, even your day jobs are special. Do you check out the records that Adam works on or the bands that Howard helps out? Do they check out your art?
We’re so involved in each other's lives and our music that when we get home its more like "how’s your folks doing?" and questions about family. All business is pushed to the side and we relax. I like telling them if I work with a cool band - I did a Cannibal Corpse t-shirt and Joel is a huge fan so he was impressed, but it’s usually just a relief to not hear about anything band or music-related.
So you see your art and design as being part of Killswitch? Or is a totally separate thing? Is one work and one play?
I think they’re both play. The Killswitch money pays all my bills and the design money is like pocket money. Design should be like my 9 to 5 job but it’s so much fun now and you certainly can’t call this [band] a job. We gripe about a lot of stuff but we’re so grateful. It never feels like work.
How did recording for the new album go? Was it weird to have Adam handling all the desk duties?
Not at all. He’s produced all the records and, although this was his first time mixing too, his vision has always been outstanding on that side. I guess it is sort of one-sided but Adam knows everyone’s strengths. There was no stress at all. The studio we recorded at is where we practise, where Adam virtually lives now, so recording really boiled down to hanging with my friends, drinking beer and listening to Adam talk. Easy.
Were you ever worried that the record might not sell?
All you can ever do is be proud of what you’ve done. Sales do enter into your mind - no band can say they don’t care about it because you need decent numbers to be allowed to make another record - but we just wanted to make the best thing we could.
Do you always write songs in the same way? Did anything change for the new one?
No, this was more like getting back to the normal. ‘End Of Heartache’ was tough to write because we had such limited time off from the road, everyone was in touring mode and nobody wanted to be in the studio. The label was pushing and no one felt like writing. Eventually Adam came in with the start of seven songs so that was more of an Adam record because it was his drive and his initiative that got it started but ‘As Daylight Dies’ was back to everybody contributing and everybody adding different parts and that’s the way I like it.
Are you already thinking of more song ideas or is it just a case of getting through this tour?
No. Fucking. Way. We’re totally back in touring mode. There’s no way we’ll be writing anything new for at least a year. If you’re touring, then going back to the bus and writing, that’s when this becomes like a job. No one can play guitar for that long in a day.
Are there many things left for Killswitch to do?
Buy a space shuttle. Play the moon. Destroy the asteroid. Save the day.
Seriously, Metallica are the one band that have eluded us, I know we wouldn’t say no to a tour with them. I would love to play China, love to play Russia, love to play South America with Sepultura. A few things left to do.
How many more years do you think Killswitch has got in it to get those things done?

Anything could happen like someone quitting or a back injury or... to be honest though, this band has crossed so many humps that we’re probably indestructible now. If something was going to kill us it would have been one of the many problems we’ve already faced. It would be really stupid of us to not keep going at this point, where we’re good friends and really tight and loving life. So we’re not going anywhere yet is what I’m saying. Although that space shuttle might have to wait.
Tonight’s conversation doesn’t stop when the Dictaphone clicks off. Walking through the backstage area of the Academy, Mike continues talking about his love of Japan and it’s people, his continuing adoration of New York hardcore and his opinions of the English music press. He talks genuinely and without any rock star pretensions. He says things like “I’m just waiting to wake up from this dream” and “we’re just so happy where we are”, and, really, it’s utterly refreshing to hear someone who has been playing music for over a decade and dealt with plenty of industry shit recognising and thoroughly enjoying his privileged position.

Powervice uit elkaar
Terwijl de Tilburgse band Powervice werkte aan hun nieuwe album, zijn er problemen ontstaan en maakt de band nu bekend dat Ries Doms, Selim Lemouchi en Willem Verbuyst Powervice hebben verlaten en dat daarmee de band feitelijk is opgeheven. Op de Powervice website is een statement van de band te lezen, dat hieronder, vrij vertaald in het Nederlands, is weergegeven :

In de afgelopen dagen zijn wij tot de conclusie gekomen dat we het vertrouwen hebben verloren in de band Powervice. Man Must Die relapse
De Schotse death metalband Man Must Die heeft getekend bij Relapse. Op dit moment wordt de laatste hand gelegd aan ‘The Human Condition’, de tweede full-length van de band, die is opgenomen in de JFD Studios te Canada en is geproduceerd door Kataklysm-gitarist Jean François Dagenais. Naar verwachting wordt de plaat komend voorjaar uitgebracht. In 2004 verscheen (via Retribute Records) het debuut van de band, getiteld ‘…Start Killing’.
Lay Down Rotten Metal Blade
De Duitse death metalband Lay Down Rotten heeft getekend bij Metal Blade. Op dit moment is de band druk bezig met het schrijven van een nieuwe plaat. De voorlopige werktitel is ‘Reconquering The Pit’. Deze zomer staan opnames gepland en naar verwachting wordt de plaat eind dit jaar uitgebracht. Lay Down Rotten is opgericht in 1999 en bracht eerder (via Remission Records) de full-lengths ‘Paralysed By Fear’ (’03), ‘Cold Constructed’ (’05) en ‘Breeding Insanity uit.
Nieuwe bassist Suhrim
Niklaas Reinhold is aangenomen als permanente bassist bij het belgische Suhrim. Hij vervangt Johan Antonissen, die zich live alleen nog zal richten op de zang. Hij blijft wel gewoon componeren en baspartijen aanleveren.
